sunday brunchin’ in springy layers

Even though today in Madison feels more like fall, complete with gloomy skies and hazelnut coffee, this past weekend was full of sunshine and springy outfits. It’s currently that awkward time of year when you need a jacket in the morning, but could be sweating in a t-shirt by the afternoon – that’s why I’m all about layers! When you’re headed out for a fun springy Sunday full of brunch and barbecues, you need an outfit that can handle any temperature.

Now, I’m not one to follow any fashion “rules,” but something about a light-colored jean jacket just screams spring to me, while my darker wash denim jacket is reserved for the fall. This particular one is that perfect medium shade that goes with anything, and I love the petite fit over loose dresses. Unfortunately, I found this jacket on extreme sale when The Limited was going out of business (still upset by this), but this one from Gap or this one from J Crew give off the same vibes. As a shorter chick, I love to get the petite size in shorter jackets because they hit a much more flattering spot, rather than coming to an end at my biggest point.

T-shirt dresses are my spring go-to because you can so easily dress them up or down. I found this textured white piece at Zara when I lived in Madrid, and it has been on constant rotation every year – I even pair it with dark tights, booties and a long cardigan in the winter when I need a little brightness in my life! This dress is the softest and most comfortable thing ever, and the quilted texture makes it more interesting than a basic t-shirt material.

Ugh, and now for these AMAZING shoes. A few weekends ago I headed up to Door County for a friend’s bachelorette party, and came across the most adorable shop, Spot. I basically fell in love with everything inside, but somehow only came out with a few gifts for a friend, a purse, and THESE SHOES. They are the perfect tone of blush-mauve that could work for any season, and they are extremely comfortable. I can’t wait to wear them this summer for a wedding! I was a little disappointed to hear that the Door County location was the only Spot brick-and-mortar store, but luckily they have an online shop that you can access here.

With just these 3 simple pieces, I created the perfect day-to-night spring outfit – pair any t-shirt dress, denim jacket and wedges of your own, and you’ll have one too! I kept my jewelry and hair simple, but a fancy pair of earrings could dress it way up, or a high pony could give the look a fun, laid-back vibe. The possibilities are endless!
